Comics Boom

If anybody happens to be in Keene, New Hampshire tomorrow, consider coming by Comic Boom, where Ben, Carl, Max, Lena, and I (and several other CCSers too) will be selling our wares. The store has generously lent us some of their space, so from noon to four we’ll be tabling in, appropriately enough, their tabletop gaming section. It’ll be like a tiny Keene con — KIX, if you will.

I’ll be bringing issues of The Mockingbird, stickers, and some monster prints (including the brand new “M is for Mothman” and a revised version of “V is for Vampire”). Also, our illustrious instructor Steve Bissette will be there doing zombie caricatures. I heartily recommend zombification. If you’re in the market for a grisly reminder of your own mortality, you’ll find no better artifact than one of his drawings!

Anyway, here are the details:

And here is that vampire drawing, which I’ve reworked to match my other monster pieces:

Well, I’m off to print and assemble. Wish me luck tomorrow. And, if you happen to be in New England, come to Keene for Halloween!

M is for Mothman

I’m pretty proud of this design and am glad that I varied my pallet a little bit. The Mothman would have looked fine in purple and yellow, but I’ve been doing a lot of that lately. Thankfully, Lena believed in these colors when I was waffling.

My Mothman bears little resemblance to an actual moth or to the “real” Mothman, who’s sort of shaggy, owly, and monochromatic.

I have a lot more to say, but, for better or worse, none of it has anything to do with the Mothman. Someday soon I should be posting a long and (long overdue) entry about the fantastic weekend I had a couple of weeks ago. It was the best and busiest comics weekend I’ve ever had, with PIX, the Charlotte Arts Catalyst coloring book show, and a (positive!) Mockingbird review in The Comics Journal all falling across a very full 48 hours! Today, however is not that day. In short, I’m doing great and am glad to be drawing monsters again!

Come to My Show(s)!

Well, I’m happy to announce that the page I submitted to the Charlotte Arts Catalyst coloring book is going to run in the finished publication. For anyone who might be interested, there’s going to be a release party for the book on Saturday, October 16th (tomorrow) at Pura Vida Worldly Arts (old 1521 Central Ave. location) fro 6 to 10. There will be music, food, and books and art to browse and buy. So, if you’re in the Charlotte area, come and see my work on the page and on the wall!

Also, if you happen to be in Pittsburgh this weekend, come by my table at PIX (the Pittsburgh Indy Comics Expo)! I’m here with three awesome fellow CCSers: Lena H. Chandhok, Max Mose, and Carl Antonowicz. Be sure to look them up too! I’ll be sharing a table with Lena, and Max and Carl shouldn’t be too far away. PIX is an exciting new indie con and I’m thrilled to be around for it’s premier year. This is a big year for these new -IX cons. I just tabled at the inaugural MIX (Minneapolis Indie Expo) in August.

OK, I’m off to get some sleep. Wish me luck this weekend!
